On Saturday, 9th December, Leconfield Hall in Petworth, played host to a packed xXx Factor final audience.

10 performers were competing to win a recording session in The Voice Academy studio in Petworth, and also for their recorded CD to be played on the radio by Spirit FM.

The performers sung their songs and the audience then had to vote.

The Celebrity Jury consisted of Jim Lee, owner of the Blue Coconut Club, performer Carla Owen (“Sharon”, as she was called by the audience) and songwriter Steve Booker, who has written songs for the likes of Ill Divo, Hayley Westenra, Nathalie Imbruglia, Boyzone and Paul Young. Steve was born in Petworth, but now travels between London and L.A. He was a big inspiration for the singers.

While the votes were being counted the audience were able to enjoy drinks and a buffet, after which a big raffle took place.

Guest star Charlotte Woodman opened the second half with a beautiful rendition of “Over the Rainbow” after which the three prize winners were announced.

Fourteen year old Emily Jones won the contest with a performance of “Fields of Gold”. Second was Rachel Pryer and third Claire Baker.

The money raised from the xXx Factor event amounted to a fantastic £2,353.00.

During the evening Kevin Torode and Tony Pratt presented Dan Powell of Clic Sargent Charity, a cheque for £500.00. The cheque came from Petworth Town Youth Football Club who had been fundraising throughout the season and put aside the money to give to a charity.

Kevin said “we wanted to give the money to a children’s charity and could think of no better one than Clic Sargent.”

Dan then gave the audience an insight into the charity, explaining how CLIC Sargent charity is the UK's leading children's cancer charity by being the only organization to offer the children all round care and support, because the charity is there every step of the way.

Well done Petworth.
